Fractionation prints

from 20.00

These prints are composed with randomly layered 36 point metal type designed in the 1940s by American Type Founders called Alpha-Blox. The set was recently recast by Skyline Type out of Arizona and they are easily one of my favorite things to play with in the shop. Each block is a fraction of a letter from the standard alphabet, usually a sixth or eighth depending on the character. The idea was to construct your own letters with the pieces. The title of the series comes from this idea. When they are randomly layered on top of themselves with different colors of ink fascinating patterns begin to emerge. I lost count of how many times each print was run through the press. Probably around 13 times, or over a few days until I was pleased with the depth and color mix. This run is a series of three 8x8 inch prints - a red, green, and blue version. 30 of each were printed on 140lb French paper. Can be shipped professionally framed by my friends at Bywater Framing -  contact me for more information.
